Each Sunday night, a few stragglers flick the lights off in the back room at First RPC of Cambridge. Darkness floods the room. Yet, for those already headed home, the light from the friendship, fellowship, and prayer of the past few hours lingers in their hearts.
For over 125 years, God has gathered people in the church building’s back room on Antrim Street and fed them. These days, children snack on laps during Sunday school. The elders bow together, preparing for worship. The sleepy reach for the pot of coffee. The hungry, lonely traveler joins a fellowship meal. The locals gather for prayer.
How has a simple, neat room first built in 1896 become the meeting place for young and old, weary and driven, plumbers and professors, locals and foreigners? Well, simply put, God brought them together.
But now, this old meeting room is showing its age. It has only two outlets, the kitchenette is gone, and accessibility needs have grown. It is full of life, yet the time has come to renew and update!
We are therefore delighted to share plans for a rejuvenation of the FRPCC back room through major renovation, including:
As we kick off the work, it's exciting to consider the new stories, friendships, and connections that will be made in the renovated space. So, what part can you play? We need your prayers! Please pray with us for the work of the contractor; for good communication among all parties involved; and for a timely conclusion!
