Matthew 9:27-36
The Mercy of the Son of David
I. Jesus, the Son of David.
A. A most important question: who is Jesus? Matthew 16:13.
B. Matthew establishes the identity of Jesus.
1. In the beginning, Matthew 1:1.
2. Through the crowd: Matt 12:23; 21:9.
3. The supplicants: Matt 15:22; 20:30.
C. The Son of David, the King of Zion: Matt 22:41-45; Matt
2:2; 27:11; 21:5; 25:31-34.
II. Jesus, the merciful.
A. The people’s expectation of the Son of David: Psalm
78:70; Matt 2:6; Psalm 102:13; 59:16; 23:6.
B. Mercy is needed: the blind, the demon possessed, the
suffering and miserable; Matt 11:28-30; Titus 2:14; Rev 5:9.
C. Mercy is granted: Isaiah 35:5, 6.
III. Jesus, the powerful.
A. Jesus, able to heal the unhealable, Matt 8:16-17.
B. Jesus, able to fulfill the prophecies of the Scriptures.
C. Jesus, able to show mercy.
IV. Jesus, the watchful.
A. Jesus is watchful about how he reveals himself.
B. Jesus is watchful because of his opponents.
C. Jesus is watchful because of the great need for his mercy.
V. Following our Savior, the Son of David.
A. Be sure you know Jesus, the Son of David.
B. Being merciful is a requirement of Christian living, Matthew 5:7.
C. Be watchful and stay in the flock of Christ.
