Matthew 8:23-27 Jesus Calms the Storm

  I. We naturally fear the storms of life.

     A. The two questions in this text resolve our fears. Matt
8:26, 27.
     B. The storms of life allow us to learn about ourselves
and to grow in confidence in the Lord. 2Corinthians 12:9
     C. Reflect on the questions from the point of view of
Jesus.
        1. Why are you fearful if you are my disciples?
        2. If I am the Son of God, why are you amazed that what
I have created obeys me?

II. The Lord is ever watchful over his people.

     A. He has refined the faith of his people through water
before.

Genesis 7:7; Exodus 14:22, 27; Joshua 3:14-16; Psalm 66:12

     B. Remembering the Lord’s works recorded in the history of
his people is the first step in building your faith in him.
     C. Psalm 121:4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither
slumber nor sleep.

John 5:17; Matt 28:20.

III. Faith in Christ is our lifeline to peace in the storms
of life.

     A. The disciples were fearful but wise.

     B. Grow in faith to manage your fears in the storms of
life.

Acts 27:22-24; 1Kings 19:1-5, 7, 8; Hebrews 4:14-5:1.

     C. How do you manage in the storms of life?

Romans 8:28; 2Tim 1:7.

     D. The storms will come, the fears will rise up in our
hearts, but the Lord will always be with us to deliver us.

     E. Once we know who Jesus is, then fearfulness fades in
our experience.
