Matthew 7:21-23

"Lord, Lord.." Christ's warning about self deception.

1. Self deception brings many souls to destruction.

   1. "Many will say…" a stunning warning.

• Rev 7:9, Revelation 3:1

  1. Many…" how can many stumble this way?

• Rom 5:12, Psalm 53:2, Ezekiel 36:26, Ephesians 4:22

  1. Christ is warning about self deception among souls in the church.

• 2Cor 11:3, 14, Titus 1:15 15.

  1. Christ adds the sharp warning of Matthew 7:21 to many others in the Bible.

• Numbers 22:18 & Revelation 2:14, 1Samuel 10:10 & 1Samuel 15:23, Matthew 10:1 & verse 4, Acts 19:13, 14-16, Matthew 24:24.

• The danger of self deception must drive us to self examination.

  1. "You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am."

• John 13:13, 14-16; John 12:26, John 14:21.

• 1. The true disciple of Christ says "Lord" in the power of the Holy Spirit.

• 1Cor 12:3, 2Cor 1:21-22, 1Thess 1:5, Matthew 3:11, Acts 2:38, Luke 11:13.

  1. The true disciple gives glory to God as he lives in the world.

• Matthew 5:16, 1Corinthians 13:2

• The fear of self deception must bring us to fear the Lord.

  1. If you fear self deceit, repent and be converted.

• Acts 3:19, Psalm 32:2-5, 1 Peter 2:1-3, Isaiah 55:1.

  1. The Father in heaven wills that all His children heed his warning.

• 2 Timothy 2:19, John 6:37, Rev 7:9.

  1. The Father wills that his children on earth be perfect in holiness.
