Blessed are those who mourn.

To mourn…and to receive comfort.

Personal mourning

Mourning

To be comforted (Ps 13)

What should we mourn?

The citizens of God's kingdom are mourning sin, evil, wickedness. [Jer 9:24; Jer 17:9]

We should mourn depravity, ours and others'.

Adam and Eve: denial, then mourning. [Gen 4:25]

Our comfort comes from the victory of Jesus Christ over sin and death.

Our comfort comes from the certainty of God's promises. [Gen 3:20; 3:15]

Our comfort comes through Christ's atoning death. [John 16:19-22]

Our comfort is assured by the witness of Christ's resurrection.

Comfort is appropriated through faith in Christ. [Mark 16:9-10; 14]

The comfort of those who mourn comes through the work of Jesus the Messiah.[Isaiah 61:1-3]
