The setting for the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus "seeing the multitudes"

On the mountain. [Mt 14:23; 15:29; 26:30; 28:16]

Jesus opened his mouth. [Deuteronomy 8:3; Psalm 78:1-2; Psalm 119:72]

Jesus the Prophet. [Exodus 4:12; Deuteronomy 18:18; John 12:49; John 6:68]

The Blessings of a Fruitful Christian Life.

Blessed are… nine times.

The beginning and the end. [Genesis 1:28; Numbers 23:19; Revelation 21:3-5]

Blessing and cursing. [Deuteronomy 30:19-20; John 14:6; Galatians 3:7-9]

The final blessing. [Revelation 22:14]

Blessing in the present.

Blessedness in trouble.

Teaching with authority.

"…the people were astonished at his doctrine…" [Matthew 7:28-29]

"If this man were not from God, he could do nothing." [John 9:33]

The Promises of the Beatitudes.

A description of who are the citizens of the Kingdom and what privileges they have.

Compare with the description of the blessings of life in the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21-22.

The blessed are those who seek first the kingdom of God.
