Matthew 5:13 You are the Salt of the Earth

• The promises of God given to us.
• The consequences in this world for those who follow Christ
• Salt and light define the function which Christ has given us in the world as long as we are in it.
• To be salt in the world is to affect those around you with godliness.

1. God's use of salt in the Bible: for blessing and for judgment.

   1. Salt for judgment.

   1. Salt for purifying and preserving.

   1. The salt of the covenant and the salt of sacrifices.

   1. True disciples of Christ stand out in the world in the same way that salt stands out.

1. As Christ's disciple, you affect the earth by word and by deed.

1. Have salt in yourselves.

2. Mark 9:50 "Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another."

   1. You must guard against becoming corrupted salt.

1. A living sacrifice must be seasoned with salt.
