Matthew 12:14-23

The Servant of the Lord

  I.  Jesus’ mission is opposed but cannot be stopped.
 

      A.  Move away from evil, keep doing good.
      B.  He continued to heal.
      C.  He continued to be wary.
      D.  He came to fulfill God’s perfect plan.
     

  II.  Jesus is identified as the Servant of the Lord.
 

      A.  The title, the office. [Psalm 105:6; 106:23; 89:3; Luke 23:35;
Rev 17:14;  Isa 49:1-9a; 50:4-9; 52:13-53:12.]
      B.  The Servant is the Beloved of the Lord.  [Isaiah 49:6; 50:6-7;
John 3:35; 17:1]
      C.  The Servant bears the Spirit of God. [Isaiah 11:2; Ephesians
1:127; Isaiah 61:1 & Luke 4:17-21]
     

   III. Jesus’ manner and mission as the Servant of the Lord.
 

      A.  His mission is to declare, and send forth justice to the
Gentiles. [Isaiah 49:6]
      B.  He is not loud or eye-catching.
      C.  He serves humbly and simply. [Mark 10:45; Matt 8:2, 5, 16, 25;
Matt 9:2, 18, 20, 27, 32]
      D.  He encourages even the weakest and smallest.
      E.  He perseveres until the mission is accomplished. [John 19:30;
Hebrews 12:2; Rev 19:1-5]
     

  IV.  Our manner and mission as servants of the Lord.
 

      A.  Our mission is to declare HIM and to bring his ministry into the
world. [Matt 28:19-20]
     

      B.  Our manner must be his: not eye-catching but humble, simple.
[Colossians 3:12; Titus 3:1-2]
     

      C.  Our manner must be compassionate. [Romans 15:1-3]
     

      D.  Our engagement is to the very end.
