Matthew 10:5-15

The Ministry of Jesus Extended

  I.  The Target Group of the Mission.
 

      A.  Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. (Jeremiah 50:6; Matt 9:36;
Matt 15:24)
      B.  A time-sensitive mission. (Romans 15:8-9)
      C.  The mission extended after the Resurrection. (Matt 28:19-20;
1Peter 2:25; Rev 7:9)
     

  II.  The Focus of the Mission.
 

      A.  What the messengers knew, they could repeat.
      B.  The message is the medium. (Verse 7; Matt 4:17; Matt 28:18)
      C.  The message is evidenced by the miracles. (Verse 8)
      D.  If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. (Verse
13; 3John 5-8)
     

   III. The Means for the Mission.
 

      A.  Freely you have received, freely give. (Verse 8; Isaiah 53:6; Rom
8:32; Rev 21:6; Acts 3:6; 8:18)
      B.  Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money
belts…(Verse 9; 1Cor 9:14)
      C.  Inquire who in it is worthy and stay there until you go out.
(Verse 11; Acts 16:15)
     

  IV.  Maintaining the Mission Today.
 

      A.  The ministry of Christ and his apostles provide the foundation
for proclaiming the coming of the kingdom of heaven. (Col 2:9-10)
     

      B.  God continues to provide all the resources needed for the spread
of the gospel.
     

      C.  God will provide hearers for the gospel when it is proclaimed.
(2Tim 2:19)
     

      D.  The gospel is given away freely by those who have received it.
     

      E.  Bringing the gospel requires discernment on the part of the
messenger.
     

      F.  With the coming of the messenger comes the blessing of peace!
