Matthew 13:53-58
Jesus: home town offense
I. The Lord’s work goes on.
A. Change of scene, change of setting, continuation of Jesus’ work.
B. The work of Jesus continued all the way to the cross.
Colossians 1:19-20; 1Peter 1:18.
II. God always teaches openly.
A. This is the very plan of God from the beginning.
B. Jesus taught them in their synagogue.
John 18:20.
C. Jesus confronts people who don’t want him to confront them.
Isaiah 8:14.
III. Jesus elicits wonder and amazement from people.
A. Astonishment at his abilities.
B. Wonder about his identity.
John 7:15-16.
C. Wonder about his nature.
IV. What is your response to the teaching of Jesus?
A. Many people reject God’s greatest gift to the world: Jesus Christ
and eternal life in His name.
B. A prophet is not without honor except in his home town, and in
his own household.
Isaiah 49:7’ Romans 11:20; Ephesians 2:12.
C. If you have heard Christ today, then wait no longer to follow
him.
Ephesians 2:13; Hebrews 9:14
D. And if you are a Christian, then remember that your
Lord is God the Son, the Holy One of Israel.
