Worship that is Acceptable to God
Our worship is acceptable to God when we offer it to him through Christ, with thanksgiving, reverence and awe.
I. Hear him: Hear this call to faith, a final warning to repent and
believe in the Lord Jesus Christ .
A. Do not refuse him who speaks.
Heb 1; Heb 2:1-4; Matt 13:5; Heb 3:12; Matt 11:15; Acts 2:8; 1Cor 2:12-13; John 3:3; Matt 18:3.
B. Hear the voice of the great Shepherd of the sheep.
Heb 13:20; John 10:4
C. We always want God to hear us, shall we not listen to him?
Psalm 17:6; Prov 28: 9
II. Believe him: If you do not refuse Him who speaks, you are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken.
Haggai 2:6-9
A. The kingdom of Christ cannot be shaken.
B. The New Covenant is the ground of this unshakable kingdom.
C. We are receiving this unshakable kingdom.
Matt 7:24 & 26
D. If you do not refuse Him who speaks, you have the right to
approach the King of glory on his throne even now.
III. Act in faith to worship God as he is pleased to be worshiped.
A. Thank him: New Covenant worship must be thankful, grateful.
B. Reverence him: New Covenant worship must be presented to God
acceptably.
Exodus 24:17; Deut 4:22-24;
C. Meditate on his majesty, holiness, glory: The word of God alone
directs us how we are to worship God.
D. The awe of NT worship.
1. It is awesome that God will in fact receive worship from us.
2. It is awesome that God has provided the means to cleanse us
from sin.
3. It is awesome that we can enter into heaven itself in
Christian worship.
4. It is awesome that God continues to encourage us to persevere
and to enter his presence through faith.
