Ephesians 4:17-24

Why Christians Must Change

Christ has taught us that Christians must change from being like everybody else to being like Him.

  I. God calls us to change.

      A. God’s revulsion toward unbelievers.

Genesis 6:5-7; Acts 12:21-23

      B. The unbeliever’s mind cannot learn the way of life.
      C. The unbeliever’s desires are corrupting.
      D. The unbeliever is alienated from the life of God.

Eph 2:1-2; Psalm 58:3

II. God reminds us that we have learned Christ.

      A. The surprising language of the apostle: “so learned Christ.”
      B. You have heard Christ.
      C. You have been taught in Christ.

   III. God’s paradigm for change.

      A. Put off the old man.

Isaiah 64:6; Matt 18:15

      B. Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

Isaiah 55:8-9; Eph 1:17; 3:16; 4:30.

      C. Put on the new man.

Eph 1:5; 2Corinthians 7:9-10; Romans 13:14; Galatians 3:27

      D. God’s paradigm for change is powerful and effective.
         1. he knows how we are made and what our problems are like
         2. His help remains with you through the process of change
         3. His goal is to present you to himself perfect in Christ.
