Ephesians 1:19-23

God’s Power Toward Us Who Believe.

Pastor Christian Adjemian

God’s great power toward us is shown in his uniting the church with Christ in glory and filling the church with Christ.

   I. The evidence of God’s great power toward us is shown at work in the resurrection,
ascension, and session of Jesus Christ.

       A. The resurrection of Christ displays God’s power and will to save us from the
	   consequences of sin. [2Tim 2:8; Rom 6:9; Rom 4:5; 1Cor 6:14; Eph 2:6; Eph 1:14]

       B. The power of God was displayed also in Christ’s ascension. [Heb 4:16]

       C. The power of God is fully exercised by Christ [Ps 110:1; Ps 21:8; Ps 89:25; Eph
      	   1:10; Ps 45:9]

II. The evidence of God’s great power toward us is revealed through the extent of
       Christ’s dominion.

       A. There is no power greater than the power of Jesus Christ. [v. 21; Dt 32:71; Lev
           17:7; 2Chr 11:15; Ps 106:37; 1Cor 10:20; Rev 9:20; Eph 6:12]

       B. His dominion is not only for now in this world, but forever. [Mt 16:13, 15, 16]

III. The evidence of God’s great power toward us consists in Christ’s headship and his
       victory. [v.22]

       A. The sovereign victory of Christ is over all. [Heb 2:28; Heb 10:12-13; 1Cor
           15:25; Rom 16:20]

       B. Christ has a universal headship.

       C. Christ is given as head to the church.

IV. Enlightening our understanding about the church.

       A.  The church is Christ’s body and it is his fullness, v.23. [Eph 3:19; 4:10;
           5:29-30]

       B. The visible church must visibly reveal the glory of Christ.

       C. The church is perceived to be weak but God’s power is made perfect in her.

       D. The body of Christ is in subjection to the head but also derives its
nourishment and development from the head.
