Ephesians 1:15-19

May God Make Us More Heavenly Minded

 I.  The Christian life begins with faith in the Lord Jesus and love for all the saints
     Prayer: Eph 1:16; 5:20; Rom 12:12; Eph 6:18; Phil 4:6; Col 4:2
  

 II.  Heavenly-mindedness comes from having the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God.
      A.  Only the Spirit can lead us to understand God’s revealed truth.
      B.  The Holy Spirit can move us to freely proclaim God’s revelation.
      C.  A deeper knowledge of God himself stimulates heavenly thinking.
     

 III. Heavenly-mindedness develops as the eyes of your heart are enlightened to
      know God’s will.
      A.  Only Christ, the true light, can enlighten the eyes of the heart. John 1:9
      B.  To be without Christ in the world is to have your heart in a cave-like world
      C.  With the heart enlightened, we see the true impact of the gospel on our lives.
     

 IV.  Heavenly-mindedness allows you to know the hope, the riches and the power 
      which God has blessed us with.
      A.  What is the hope of his calling
      B.  What are the riches of the glory of his inheritance
      C.  What is the exceeding greatness of his power. Cf. Eph 2:7; 3:19.
     

  V.  Heavenly-mindedness improves the way we live in this world.
      A.  Through our knowledge of God we learn about commitment, faithfulness , trust 
	  and steadfastness.
     

      B.  Heavenly-mindedness gives us perspective to better understand life in a fallen
	  world and our place in it.
     

      C.  Heavenly-mindedness allows us to set God-honoring goals and to keep at them.
     

      D.  Heavenly-mindedness develops trust in God’s power for us and purges our fears.
     

      E.  Heavenly-mindedness moves us to worship and to seek out communion with the Lord.
