1Thessalonians 3:6-13
Remember and Stand Fast in the Lord.
For our blessing and growth as a church we must cultivate three things:
- faith and love;
- remembrance of our heritage in Christianity;
- yearning to have Christian fellowship.
Greatly desire Christian fellowship
Be eager to see one another's faces: 1Thess 2:17-3:5
Praying earnestly about this: 1Thess 3:10
Greatly desire to see one another: for the purposes of edification in love and faith. Mutually.
Stand fast in faith and love.
It is good news when the church embraces faith and love.
Revelation 2:19 "I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience..."
1Thess 5:8 the breastplate
We are comforted when we know that the church is standing in faith.
1Thess 3:5 "when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith"
1Thess 3: 7 "we were comforted..."
2Cor 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
1Thess 3:8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.
May God cultivate us that we may increase and abound in love.
1Thess 3:12 "increase and abound..."
Isaiah 58:11
Isaiah 61:11
Hosea 14:5-6
Song of Songs 2:11-13
Remember our common heritage.
"you always have good remembrance of us."
We show our good remembrance of God's teachers to us by eagerly hearing and trusting their testimony.
Rev 12:11 "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
1Thess 2:13 "...as it is in truth, the word of God..."
We remember our common heritage when we stand fast in our common confession of faith.
Remember and stand fast in the Lord, that God may establish our hearts blameless in holiness before Himself on that great day of Christ's return.
